Welcome to Element Roofing – your trusted source for roofing knowledge, straight from the rafters of real world experience.
This site was born in the hills of northern Vermont, where harsh winters, steep-pitched roofs, and generations old homes have shaped the way we approach construction. Element Roofing began as a small, locally run roofing company based in Saint Albans, serving both residential and commercial clients across towns like Sheldon and beyond. We didn’t just work on roofs we built relationships with homeowners, learned the rhythm of the seasons, and problem-solved in real time, whether on snow-covered shingles or aging farmhouse rafters.
But over the years, we realized something important: while we could only serve a few homes at a time, our experiences the lessons, the fixes, the know how could help thousands more.
That’s when Element Roofing evolved from a hands-on contractor into a hands-on guide. Today, we’re an informative platform committed to sharing the kind of roofing knowledge most people only learn the hard way. From choosing the right materials to understanding ventilation, roof loads, insulation, storm damage, and repairs we break it all down clearly and practically.
Our content is written by people who’ve been on the ladder, not just behind a keyboard. We bring together experienced roofers, Vermont builders, engineers, and home inspectors to deliver insights that are both technically sound and easy to understand. Whether you’re maintaining a historic property, comparing roofing systems, or simply wondering what that drip in your attic means, we’re here to help you think smarter, act sooner, and feel more confident.
Element Roofing exists to bridge the gap between the trades and the everyday homeowner. We’re not here to sell you a service we’re here to give you the tools, tips, and straight answers you need to protect what matters most.
Because a roof isn’t just structure it’s security. And security starts with knowledge.
Meet the Author
Victor Nealon | The Founder
Hi, I’m Victor – the voice behind Element Roofing.
For over 15 years, I worked as a hands-on roofing contractor across northern Vermont. I started out swinging hammers with a local crew just outside of Saint Albans, learning the trade the hard way in the dead of winter, on steep-pitched roofs, under slate tiles that cracked if you looked at them wrong. Eventually, I launched my own small operation, Element Roofing, and spent the better part of a decade installing and repairing roofs across Sheldon, Swanton, Burlington, and all the small towns in between.
I always loved the work not just the building, but the problem-solving. Every home had a story, every roof a challenge. But what stuck with me most wasn’t the jobs we completed it was the conversations with homeowners. People wanted to understand what was happening over their heads. They asked smart questions. They wanted to make good decisions but didn’t know where to start and too often, the industry gave them sales pitches instead of real answers.

That’s what inspired me to shift gears.
Over time, I traded in my tool belt for a keyboard and turned Element Roofing into what it is today: an informative platform dedicated to roofing education. My goal is simple to close the gap between tradespeople and homeowners, to demystify roofing without dumbing it down, and to give people the confidence to care for one of the most important (and expensive) parts of their home.
I write from the field, not from theory. Everything I share here from how to spot early signs of roof failure to when to repair versus replace comes from experience, not guesswork. And when I don’t know the answer? I reach out to the crew of builders, engineers, and inspectors I still keep close.
If you’re here, it probably means you care about doing things the right way not just the quick way. That makes two of us.
Whether you’re prepping for a re-roof, trying to understand ice dams, or just want to know what kind of shingle actually lasts in a Vermont winter, I hope you’ll find something here that helps you stand a little taller under your own roof.
